Ted Talk Reflection

This Ted talk is about photography. The photographer in the ted talk is showing some photographs and explaining what they are. In the beginning he explains how it is photography but not just regular photography. The photographs that he is showing are realism photographs and he explains what realism photography is. He explains how it is cool and fascinating how in photography you can created anything you want and make it something you like without it needing to be real.

what I mean about that is that you can be as creative as you want when it comes to realism photography. He also says how it’s not realistic but more like on how what we think looks realistic. He said that he sees it as a puzzle of reality where you can take different pieces of reality and put them together to create an alternate reality . He shows how that you can take two different pictures and combined them. There is three simple steps when doing this.

The first step is to the two photographs should have the same perspective when being combined. The second step is that the photos combined should have the same type of light. Last but not least is to make the two photos impossible to  distinguish. What I learned is that realism is whatever you want it to be and be as creative as you want. Have fun with it and make it how ever  you like.

DSLR camera and lens ppt (9.26.22)

  • DSLR stands for digital single lens reflex.
  • it is digital cameras that resemble 35mm film cameras
  • there is prime vs. zoom lenses
  • prime lens: only one focal length
  • zoom lenses: variable focal lengths
  • ISO is the  number that describes film’s sensitivity to light
  • more available light = lower ISO
  • less available light = higher ISO
  • use the lowest ISO so you can to avoid grain/noise
  • shutter speed is how long the shutter is open
  •  tripods are very useful
  • aperture is the fraction – the foal length divided by the lens diameter.
  • the denominator becomes the f stop number
  • smaller number actually represents a larger opening
  • aperture and depth of field: larger aperture, shallower depth of field
  • depth of field and focal length: longer lenses appear to have a shallower depth of field because they are magnifying the subject it flattens the perspective and makes our eyes think the DOF is shallower
  • whit balance is a Camera setting that adjusts how colors look
  • Most cameras have presets
  • there are five main shooting modes
  • there are modes for people who just want to take pictures and have all the settings already set.
  • full auto: camera does EVERYTHING for you
  • CA mode camera does almost everything BUT lets you choose brightness, depth of field, picture style by pressing the Q button
  • shutter speed: higher speed to capture fast action
  • AF stands for autofocus
  • MF stands for manual focus

  1. The aperture controls the area over which light can enter your camera, shutter speed controls the duration of the exposure, and the ISO controls the sensitivity of your camera’s sensor to a given amount of light.
  2. You would need to change it when you are targeting a specific shutter speed
  3. The aperture Priority  lets you choose the aperture setting you want, but the camera chooses the shutter speed. The shutter Priority lets you choose the shutter speed you want, but the camera chooses the aperture setting.
  4. AF mode is the function of a camera to automatically focus on a subject. In order to change it  you need to press the shutter button halfway down or the AF-ON button if you use back-button focus to focus on your subject.
  5. You need to meter the light to get the right exposure because it won’t be fooled by subject reflectivity.
  6. White balance is used to adjust colors to match the color of the light source so that white objects appear white , If it is set incorrectly, it can either make the image look too cool (more blue), or too warn (more orange).
  7. Depth of field is the area of acceptable sharpness in front of and behind the subject which the lens is focused, it refers to how blurry or sharp the area is around your subject. A shallow depth of field refers to a small area in focus. Often the subject is in focus, while the background is blurred.
  8. Drive Modes are the shooting modes in your camera, such as single shooting  continuous shooting, self-timer mode and more. The metering mode refers to the way in which a camera determines exposure.
  9. Exposure compensation is used to alter exposure from the value selected by the camera, making photographs brighter or darker.
